Tattoo Aftercare Directions

Thank you for choosing Star Crossed Tattoo!

We have ensured that the best possible level of hygiene and cleanliness is strictly adhered to at all times.

Now that you’ve gotten your fresh new tattoo it is very important that you take good care of it during and after healing. From this point on. we are not responsible tor any infection or problems you may have with your tattoo, if you don’t take proper care. A really beautiful tattoo can turn into a disaster if proper aftercare is not taken.

To aid in the healing of your new tattoo we recommend: SEBA-MED (Baby Cream) or an AQUEOUS CREAM (Non-Fragrant). These can be purchased from any WATSONS, MANNINGS or BONJOUR.

Do:

  • Leave the clear wrap covering your new tattoo on for a minimum of 3 hours or however long your artist has suggested.

  • Remove the clear wrap under warm running water. If the tape/wrap is stuck to the tattoo, gently remove it while under the warm running water, therefore reducing the risk of damaging the tattoo.

  • Once the clear wrap is removed, use an unscented/gentle soap and wash the tattoo off well with your hand and warm soapy water. The tattoo will feel slimy (this is blood plasma) - wash the tattoo till the slimy feeling is gone.

  • After washing the tattoo off, gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel or disposable napkin and allow the tattoo to air dry for around 30 minutes or so.

  • Apply a thin layer of the recommended cream 2 times a day onto the tattoo, morning and evening (about a pea sized amount). The lotion can be applied to the tattoo for around 10-14 days or until the tattoo is completely done peeling. Somewhere between day 3 and day 6, your skin on the tattoo will start to peel/flake off. Do not pick or scratch it!

  • Let the skin peel off naturally. You will notice small pieces of dry skin containing colour coming off during this stage of healing. This is normal - it is just the top layer of dead skin coming off. Your tattoo is not disappearing!

Do Not:

  • DO NOT: Allow direct sunlight onto a fresh tattoo for the first 2-3 weeks.

  • DO NOT: Pick or scratch the tattoo while it is peeling.

  • DO NOT: Soak your new tattoo in water for the first 2 weeks.

  • DO NOT: Apply too much cream. Doing so will soak your tattoo. Enough to cover your tattoo in a thin layer is sufficient.

  • DO NOT: Swim, take a bath, or enter a hot tub or sauna for 2 weeks or until the tattoo is completely healed.

  • DO NOT: Shave or wax the area until your tattoo is completely healed.

  • DO NOT: Apply alcohol, Neosporin, Dettol, Vaseline, sun block or any other highly concentrated ointment onto a fresh tattoo.

Extra points to consider:

  • Once you leave the shop, proper care of your tattoo is your responsibility.

  • If the tattoo is in an area where it can be exposed to the air, allow it to breathe. Allowing the tattoo to breathe will help the healing process. Your body and oxygen are going to heal the tattoo.

  • If possible, wear loose fitting clothing over tattoo and be careful not to suffocate the tattoo with tight socks or pantyhose.

  • Your tattoo artist may provide specific directions on a case-to-case basis.

  • If your tattoo artist gives you specific aftercare instructions, please follow their advice.
